The organisers of Bella Skyway Festival are the City of Toruń and Toruń Cultural Agency. The nominal sponsor of the event is TZMO SA and Bella brand. The main partner of the festival is Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The cultural landscape of Toruń has been enriched by another European-scale event — Bella Skyway Festival. A festival that is fresh, unique and reality-changing. A festival that breathes new life into the gothic town walls of Toruń.
The Festival has been organised in Toruń since 2009 and its beginnings are connected with the fact that the town tried to become a European Capital of Culture 2016. The programme of this event is based on three pillars:
Science and art combined with a strong social dimension are the aspects that have always intermingled and complemented one another in Toruń. They make the town so special. So does Bella Skyway Festival.
The free bird is the most faithful being in this world.
– Edward Stachura
The year 2020 is special for Toruń, as it coincides with the 100th anniversary of rebecoming a part of the independent Poland. During the 12th Bella Skyway Festival the gothic city fabric will change into a field of luminous experiments and research. In this year’s events, the artists will pay their attention to the matter of freedom, which seems to be today’s elementary notion.
In the 1920s and 1930s, when the first contemporary theories of elementary particles, such as electrons, protons and neutrons were formed, nobody was probably aware of the existence of the other components of matter, such as quarks or taus. Similarly, in 1920, when Toruń was coming back to free Poland, no one was expecting what that freedom could bring. Today, during the 12th Bella Skyway Festival artists will be able to observe this concept. The term, which is an ensurance of the artistic inquiring.
Is creativity the only barrier of the artist? Is achieving the impossible an act of liberating one and others from the limits? When does the freedom of one become the enslavement of others? Does “being able to” mean being free? Is freedom without the lines even possible? We will search for the answers to these questions in the year of the 100th anniversary of the return of Toruń to independent Poland.
